Best PS4 Couch Co-op Games To Play With Your Girlfriend, Boyfriend Or Significant Other

Part 1 - December 2020

Gaming is an excellent hobby to share with your girlfriend, boyfriend or significant other. Couch co-op gaming encourages you to communicate and work together to achieve a goal and more importantly have fun!

There’s lots of Playstation games I’ve enjoyed playing over the years with my boyfriend, so I’ll be putting together a series of videos that contain gameplay footage from our favourites and info on why we liked them.

So without further ado here are the best PS4 couch co-op games to play with your girlfriend, boyfriend or significant other (part 1).

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime is a game about love, exploring space and saving cute critters. It’s colourful and somewhat eccentric and is full of surprises.

In this charming and addictive game you fly around space in a circular spaceship which is made up of lasers, turrets, shields and thrusters which you can control. But…you can only control one of these battle-stations at a time, so there’s always an important role to fill.

We enjoyed playing this one because it encouraged us to work together aka shout at each other. There’s a sense of panic when there’s a swarm of enemies attacking you and you have to decide what to do. Plus it’s fun exploring the cosmos. We also loved discovering some of the upgrade combinations too. The levels are also randomly generated which is a big plus for replayability.

Overcooked 2

At the start of lockdown I recommended Overcooked 2 to my friend whose wife was new to video gaming. They had so much fun playing this game and yes, they are still married after playing it!

The aim of each level is to prepare, cook and deliver as many meals as possible in a set time limit. It’s frantic and fun. You have to assemble each order correctly, make sure the plates are clean and try not to fall off moving platforms as you flit around the screen.

We had so much fun playing Overcooked. We particularly love the frantic nature of the game, plus the level designs are fun and varied. It’s easy to understand what the goal is in each level and they’re amusing to play. You should definitely check out this game if your looking for a fun PS4 couch coop game!

Unravel 2

If you’re looking for a relaxing, emotional game to play with your other girlfriend, boyfriend or other half, I’d recommend playing Unravel 2. This game takes you on an amazing adventure through varied, photorealistic environments and encourages you to solve various puzzles in order to progress through the levels.

You play as 2 incredible cute creatures called Yarnies who are joined together by thread. As such you can move through the levels by swinging your partner across gaps or by pulling them up walls if they’ve fallen off. You can even morph into one Yarnie and be controlled by the other player if you’re not feeling confident about a section.

I really enjoyed playing this game, the music and graphics are amazing and I’d quite like it if someone knitted me a Yarnie!

Magicka 2

Magicka 2 is a top down wizarding adventure that I’d recommend playing with your girlfriend or significant other if they’re a more seasoned gamer. There’s quite a steep learning curve, but once you’ve figured out the controls, it’s a lot of fun!

In the game you can cast spells using ice, fire, water, electricity and other available elements. You can either fire these at the enemies or assign them to yourself or your weapon.

The game definitely encourages you to work together to defeat enemies. Sometimes you’ll be giggling because you’ve accidentally killed your partner. Other times you’ll be begging them to resurrect you after you’ve been ambushed by a goblins.

I’d definitely recommend playing Magicka 2 if you’re after a more challenging PS4 game.

Little Big Planet 3

Little Big Planet 3 is a creative and colourful adventure game that I had a lot of fun playing with my boyfriend.

I’m a bit of a completionist, so for me, the playful competition of grabbing stickers first, was very amusing! We had a lot of fun playing this game and once you’ve finished playing the main campaign, there’s a huge backlog of user generated levels to try.

I’ve included Little Big Planet 3 as it’s the newest game in the franchise, but I’d also highly recommend playing the first 2 games in co-op mode if you have a Playstation 3. They’re tonnes of fun!

I’m also really looking forward to trying out the sequel SackBoy: A Big Adventure when it launches, especially as it has levels designed specifically with co-op in mind.
